30 inmate freed in Ondo state

 The Government of Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, has granted official state pardon to inmates in the state prisons.

According to reports, the prisoners were serving in various jails terms in the Olokuta medium prison, Akure the Ondo state capital.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Mr. Yemi Olowolabi, the pardon was effected to mark the country’s 57th Independence Anniversary and was a follow up to recommendation of the State Advisory Council.

According to the statement, the prisoners’ pardon was part of the prerogative of mercy which the governor executes regularly particularly during the annual independence anniversary.

The statement reads that, “Most of the released prisoners were recommended for pardon on account of having been found to be of good conduct while serving their jail terms.
